Operational Training HIT owes much of its success to its policy of offering comprehensive training for all staff. A number of in-house programmes have been developed. Many of these focus on safety.

In Hong Kong, legislation implemented in 1994 requires all employees to adhere to safety regulations when performing work-related duties. HIT issues official competency licences following technical training courses offered by the Labour Department.

All courses are tailored to meet the needs of two types of personnel:
People newly recruited to the industry
People whose licences are about to expire and simply need revalidation.

Training is either Technical or Trade-Related.
