Article Date: 31/07/2018

(Hong Kong, 31 July 2018) Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) received a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles at a presentation ceremony today. Mayor of Los Angeles, Hon. Eric Garcetti, presented the certificate to HIT in appreciation of its support to the Port of Los Angeles for providing block stowage for vessels calling at the San Pedro Bay ports.

Block stowage enables more efficient use of land, labour, equipment and railroad assets. It also provides environmental benefits with less truck idling. HIT has proactively offered block stowage services for vessels during their stay at HIT in order for San Pedro Bay ports to enjoy the benefits of hassle-free operations at their end.

The City of Los Angeles recognized HIT’s efforts and expressed their gratitude at the presentation ceremony. Mayor of Los Angeles, Hon. Eric Garcetti, said “Thank you to Hongkong International Terminals for their block stowage process. Because of their efforts and partnership in pre-arranging cargo, San Pedro Bay can more efficiently unload ships and expedite the delivery of cargo by train to the Midwest and beyond.”

HIT’s Managing Director, Mr Gerry Yim, said at the ceremony, “It is an honour to receive the certificate from the Mayor and meet the delegation from the City of Los Angeles. I am glad that our work can benefit the operations at the San Pedro Bay ports and our efforts are recognized. We will continue to enhance our services and offer a better and more customized experience for all parties in the logistics chain.”

At the heart of its operations is HIT’s award winning terminal management system, known as nGen -- Next Generation Terminal Management System, in providing world-class services to customers. nGen controls the entire scope of terminal operations, including ship and yard planning, gate and vessel operations, equipment utilisation and productivity management.
