Article Date: 06/02/2020

(Hong Kong, 5 February 2020) Hong Kong Seaport Alliance (HKSPA) performed at 139 moves per hour for Evergreen Marine Corporation’s vessel, Thalassa Doxa, and completed loading and unloading of 7,591 boxes (equivalent to 13,582 TEU) during her stay, marking the largest number of moves handled for a single vessel in Hong Kong.

This handling volume also broke the previous record of 6,988 boxes, which was also set by Kwai Tsing Container Terminal 8 in 2017.

Thalassa Doxa is deployed on Asia US East Coast service run by the OCEAN Alliance. The vessel departed for Yantian Port in Shenzhen after completing operations in Hong Kong, then sailed onwards to Panama and the East Coast of the United States.

Since its inception, HKSPA has started implementing its berth and yard planning strategies to provide enhanced services to customers. The 23 berths run by the members of HKSPA are divided into three terminal zones to provide greater efficiency to shipping alliances and individual carriers.

Mr. Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of COSCO HIT, said, "Since the joint operation of the HKSPA progressively implemented in April last year, operational efficiency has been greatly enhanced. The calling of Thalassa Doxa signifies Hong Kong's prominent competence and efficiency in handling huge cargo volume. At the same time, it reflects shipping lines' confidence in our capability. I would like to thank our team for setting a new Hong Kong record with concerted and restless efforts amid all challenges."

Mr. Leonard Fung, Managing Director of HIT, added, "The HKSPA is formed to increase resources deployment, enhance port efficiency and service quality through a 'terminal neutral' operating model. This would attract more mega vessels to call at Hong Kong."

Mr. Horace Lo, Group Managing Director of Modern Terminals, said, "The novel operating model of the HKSPA is in response to the dynamic changes of the port industry. It results in enhanced efficiency and reduced costs, with the customer as the ultimate beneficiary."

Mr. Steve Chao, Executive Vice President of Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd, said, "Hong Kong port has always been a reliable transshipment hub in the region and a key gateway to China. The port's quality service secures our vessel schedule reliability. We are glad to witness enhancement in handling transshipment following the formation of the HKSPA."

Thalassa Doxa, with a carrying capacity of 13,808 TEU, arrived at Kwai Tsing Container Terminal 8.
