HPH Trust Unveils Hong Kong’s First Autonomous Truck Fleet
Setting New Standard for Smarter, Safer and Greener Terminal Operations
Article Date: 21/04/2026

(Hong Kong – 21 Apr 2026) Hutchison Port Holdings Trust (HPH Trust) today announced the launch of its inaugural Autonomous Truck (AT) fleet in Hong Kong, a zero-emission vehicle designed for efficient container transport at its terminals. This cutting-edge, AI-powered innovation marks a significant milestone in advancing the city’s smart and green port development, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a global maritime hub.

Today’s launch ceremony was officiated by Liu Chun San, Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics, HKSAR Government and Ivor Chow, Chief Executive Officer of HPH Trust and Managing Director of Hongkong International Terminals (HIT).

AT, designed without a driver’s cab, operates seamlessly alongside conventional vehicles under ‘true’ mixed traffic mode. Powered by AI-driven algorithms, binocular cameras, advanced sensors and precise positioning systems, AT delivers 24/7 all-weather performance, with built-in obstacle detection and emergency response systems.

Liu Chun San, Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics, HKSAR Government, said, “The launch of autonomous trucks not only marks a key milestone for the development of Hong Kong’s container terminals, but also signifies a pivotal step in the smart transition of Hong Kong’s port industry. This innovative initiative is a proactive response to the Government’s vision for promoting green and smart shipping, setting a good example for promoting the sustainable development and technological advancement of the Hong Kong Port.”

Ivor Chow, Chief Executive Officer of HPH Trust and Managing Director of HIT, said “Today, we are not just launching a fleet of trucks; we are launching a new generation of port technology. These AI-powered, 5G-connected Autonomous Trucks are designed to operate seamlessly alongside conventional vehicles, marking a significant step forward for Hong Kong as a smart, green maritime hub. This initiative advances the smart transformation of the logistics industry in line with the National 15th Five-Year Plan and aligns with the HKSAR Government’s Green Port Development policies. Looking ahead, we remain committed to pioneering the future of smart and sustainable port operations in Hong Kong.”

Currently, six units of ATs are in operation at Terminal 4. HPH Trust plans to expand its AT fleet and enhance its green technology portfolio to further advance sustainability across terminal operations, including the introduction of e-trucks, e-reachstackers and associated battery swapping stations. This landmark initiative underscores HPH Trust’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship, setting a new benchmark for the logistics and port industry in Hong Kong.
