[9 December 2013 – Hong Kong]  Hongkong International Terminals Limited (“HIT”) signed an agreement today with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Technology Corporation (“MHIMT”) to install remote-control operations for the 29 Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGC) at HIT’s Container Terminal 9. The project is the first time that this innovative technology is being implemented for RTGCs outside of Japan.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Mr. Kazuo Iida, President and CEO of MHIMT said, “HIT and Mitsubishi have maintained a long business relationship dating back 24 years ago when Mitsubishi first provided HIT with bridge cranes and subsequently Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes. We are proud to be working with HIT again on this project, signifying an extension of our successful partnership and contributing to HIT’s future growth and development.”

Commenting on this new project, Mr. Gerry Yim, HIT Managing Director said, “We are very pleased to be teaming up again with our trusted partner on this innovative technology project. The HPH Group is an industry leader in technology-enhanced operations. At HIT, we will continue to deploy the latest technology to assist our day-to-day operations. This remote control project will not only increase operational efficiency, but it will also enhance industrial safety and improve the working environment for our staff.”

HIT expects the first batch of remote control RTGCs in operation by the end of 2014 and the completion of the project in the first quarter of 2015.
