HIT Takes Delivery of Super Post-Panamax Cranes
[Hong Kong - 28 February 2002] Hongkong International Terminals Limited (HIT) has taken delivery of three new super post-panamax quay cranes on 28 February.

The new quay cranes, manufactured by Zhenhua Port Machinery Company (ZPMC) in Shanghai, China will help further improve the flexibility and productivity of HIT’s vessel handling capabilities.

Eric Ip, Managing Director of HIT said, "Investing in service enhancing and productivity-raising equipment has been a cornerstone of HIT's operations for over 30 years. This latest equipment purchase is part of our effort to increase service flexibility and productivity so as to meet the needs of our customers."

He added that HIT's quayside productivity increased by 10% last year, a figure which demonstrates the company's continuous efforts to better serve its customers.

The new cranes will be located at HIT's Terminal 7. Together with the existing post-panamax cranes and deep-water berths, HIT is well positioned to handle the next generation container vessels. The new cranes have a 22 row wide outreach and a 60-tonne twinlift capacity. Installation of the latest systems and technology support operator controlled manual functions.

This latest purchase follows a previous delivery of 16 ZPMC-manufactured Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGCs) to HIT in November and December 2001.
